Foster Care Fortnight at Lorimer Fostering
Foster Care Fortnight is the UK’s biggest foster care awareness raising campaign, delivered by leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network.
Established for almost 20 years, the campaign praises and raises awareness for the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers. It also supports fostering services like Lorimer to highlight the need for more foster carers. Thousands of new foster families are needed every year to care for children, with the greatest need being for foster carers for older children, sibling groups, disabled children and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.
It is also the UK’s biggest foster carer recruitment campaign. Foster Care Fortnight 2017 will take place from Monday 8 to Sunday 21 May this year.
Here at Lorimer we are urging people to come forward as Foster Carers for the local young people of the North West. Research that almost 1 in 3 children aged 5 to 10 are currently living with their third family in care, with 1 in 5 living with at least their fourth. These figures are very upsetting to think about. The disruptions that multiple placements can cause and life long difficulties and issues for these young people.
Finding the right foster carers for these children and young people will have a profoundly positive effect on their future. The stability that comes with a good foster home can greatly increase their confidence which in turn helps with their education and how they form relationships with others.
If you want to get involved and show your support you can print these images and post a picture with them to social media with the hashtag #proudtofoster or #proudtosupportfostering.
Last year, The Fostering Network calculated that over 9,000 new fostering families were needed, so there really has never been a more important time to raise the profile of fostering. The overarching theme of Foster Care Fortnight is ‘foster care transforms lives’. Here at Lorimer we are passionate about the difference that foster care makes to the lives of fostered children and young people, and Foster Care Fortnight is an excellent opportunity to showcase that difference. If you are proud to foster, get involved!
