Who Can Foster?

Like any parent, you do need patience, energy, commitment and a high level of resilience! A sense of fun and an ability to handle difficult situations will also help and you’ll need to have good communications skills to work in partnership with other professionals and advocate for the child where necessary. All types of people can be a foster carer – whether you are married, single or divorced; employed, unemployed or retired; have children already or not. All that we ask is that you have a commitment to care, a big heart and a spare bedroom.

Here are a few of the key criteria needed in order for you to become a foster carer:

• You are over the age of 21
• There is a spare room in your home
• You hold a deep sense of commitment to helping others

Why is Fostering in Burnley Essential?

What is the Burnley Fostering Allowance?

As a diverse and interesting career path, fostering in itself is a huge reward. However, you will also receive an additional weekly allowance of £400 to ensure that all of your hard work and dedication is rewarded. For each additional child in your household, there is also an additional £355 thereafter. Holidays, special occasions such as birthdays and clothing allowances are also rewarded when required.
