What is Fostering?
Fostering allows children and young people who are unable to live with their own familiy the opportunity to thrive in a secure and loving home. There are many reasons why children need foster care, for example family illness, a family breakdown or being at risk of harm. There are types of fostering that you might wish to consider including: sibling groups, teenagers, children with a disability or mother and baby placements.
Who Can Foster?
Not sure if you have what it takes to foster? Most people can foster. Being a foster carer isn’t about whether you’re married, single, lesbian, gay, heterosexual, divorced or co-habiting. It isn’t about the colour of your skin or religious beliefs. It isn’t about whether you own or rent your home or whether you already have children. Fostering is about your personality, skills and experience and being able to respond to a child’s individual needs and help them to thrive in what may be a particularly difficult time of their life.
You don’t need to have specific qualifications to become a foster carer – your life experiences, parenting skills or work with young people and/or your values are what matters.
Lorimer Fostering has been supporting foster carers in England for over 15 years and as one of the most well established and experienced independent fostering agencies, we would love for you to join our team.
