There is no set criteria to being a foster carer – many people think you need to be married, own your own home and be financially well off. Don’t believe the myths! In fact, foster carers are paid a fee and receive regular training and support – so if you like the idea of working with children this could be the career for you!
As a professional foster carer for Lorimer Fostering you will receive a professional fee (anything from £20,000 to £60,000 per year, dependent on placements), 2 weeks respite/holiday pay and a separate allowance for birthdays and Christmas. You will have regular supervision from your Supervising Social Worker and contact with localised support groups.

There are different types of fostering and we will work closely with you to decide which type of placement best suits you. Whether you opt for emergency placements, where a family crisis may result in a child needing care or when a child’s safety is threatened, Short-term care; where you provide foster care for a few weeks or months, Remand; when a young person is remanded by a court to the care of a specially trained foster carer, or Long-term Care; where long-term foster care is offered until the young person becomes an adult.
