With more and more children unable to live with their own families, Lorimer is searching for foster carers for Rochdale children to enable them to maintain continuity and stability in their lives. With a population of over 90,000, there must be suitable foster carers in Rochdale waiting to make that step!
Many people shy away from fostering for fear of not being ‘suitable’ or because they don’t know enough about it. There is no ‘ideal’ foster carer. At Lorimer, we have children from all backgrounds and ages and are committed to finding the right match for all our children and families.
Like any parent, you do need patience, energy, commitment and a high level of resilience! A sense of fun and an ability to handle difficult situations will also help and you’ll need to have good communications skills to work in partnership with other professionals, and advocate for the child where necessary. Every child is unique and the reasons why they need to be with a foster carer can vary. It may be a child needing somewhere to go at the weekend whilst a parent is in the hospital or a short-term placement when the family is in difficulty or it could be a more permanent placement supporting the child into adulthood and independence. We will work with you to find which placement suits you and your family best.
Fostering can be challenging and it is certainly demanding, but it is very important to us that as a foster carer you feel that whenever you need support, you have it. Our experienced staff means that you will receive meaningful and reassuring support and guidance. The Lorimer Team will be in touch with you throughout the fostering process and once you are approved, you will receive support and supervision as well as the opportunity of ongoing learning and development throughout your fostering career.
You will benefit from a financial allowance of £20,000 to £60,000 per year (depending on placements), 2 weeks respite/holiday pay and a separate allowance for birthdays and Christmas. You will also form part of a supportive network of professionals and together we work hard across the Rochdale area to support you and help you be the best foster carer you can be!
