Celebrating Positive Change in Our Workplace

Posted on 10th March 2026 by

Over the past year or so, our office has undergone a series of thoughtful and uplifting changes – the kind that genuinely transform the feel of a workplace. These improvements might appear small individually, but together they signal something important: that staff and young people are truly valued, and that Lorimer is committed to creating a warm, positive, and people‑centred environment.

This blog shines a light on some of these changes and acknowledges the care and consideration behind them.

A Year of Meaningful Transformation

Small Gestures, Big Impact

The updates made across the office haven’t been about grand gestures or sweeping restructuring. Instead, they’ve focused on improving and enriching the everyday experience – helping our spaces feel more welcoming, comfortable, and reflective of who we are as a team and organisation.

Building Community Through Connection

Breakfast at Team Meetings

Breakfast at team meetings has quickly become a favourite addition. It’s more than just a nice treat; it creates a relaxed, sociable atmosphere where conversations flow naturally, and everyone can start the day on a positive note.

A Thoughtful Tea & Coffee Menu

The introduction of a tea and coffee “menu,” including each staff member’s drink preferences, is such a creative touch. Having these choices easily available, and knowing that everyone’s preferences have been carefully noted, makes day‑to‑day interactions feel more personal and considered.

The expanded range of drinks (including hot chocolate and cappuccino) also adds a little bit of comfort to busy days, encouraging moments of pause and connection.

Making Space for Sunshine and Connection

Another thoughtful addition this year has been the new outdoor table and bench set in the courtyard. It’s a simple change, but one that has already started to bring a lovely sense of togetherness into the workday.

Having a dedicated spot where staff can sit outside – whether for lunch, a chat, or a quick breather – creates more opportunities for connection beyond the formalities of meetings and schedules. It encourages people to pause, enjoy some fresh air, and spend time with colleagues in a more relaxed, natural setting.

As with many of the improvements across the office, the new outdoor space isn’t just about furniture; it’s about fostering wellbeing, promoting positive relationships, and building a workplace culture where taking a moment to recharge is seen as valuable and supported.

A Workspace That Supports Us

Upgraded Workstation Equipment

The investment into improved workstation equipment (faster computers, better screens, higher quality keyboards, mice and webcams) has made a noticeable difference, helping us to feel more comfortable, supported, and physically looked after in our roles. Ergonomic tools and reliable setups are essential – and it’s been great to see these needs prioritised.

Introducing “The Snug”

One of the most exciting additions has been The Snug: a private, cosy, and thoughtfully designed space within the office. For staff, it offers a peaceful environment for focused work, reflection, or simply a breather when needed.

But The Snug is more than just a workspace – it’s also a welcoming area for young people when they visit the office. It helps them feel relaxed, valued, and at ease, reinforcing that this is a space created with care.

Celebrating Creativity and Young People’s Voices

Artwork That Brings Our Space to Life

Our office walls have never looked better – decorated with fantastic artwork and creative pieces proudly produced by young people. This display does more than brighten the building; it represents the voices, talents, and individuality of those we support.

Young people are always encouraged to share their creativity with us, and we’re proud to showcase their work throughout the office. One particularly talented young person even contributed stunning drawings directly onto the walls. This adds a completely unique and meaningful touch to the space.

These displays remind us every day of the purpose behind our work – and the pride we take in the achievements of each young person connected with Lorimer.

Reflecting Our Future Vision

Aligning with Lorimer’s Long‑Term Goals

All of these positive changes reflect the direction we’re heading as an organisation. They support the vision shared in our recent blog about what we want the future of Lorimer to feel like – warm, welcoming, connected, and human‑centred.

If you haven’t read it yet, you can find it here:

These everyday improvements show that we’re not just imagining this future; we’re actively building it.

Appreciation and Looking Ahead

Thank You to the Management Team

It feels important to recognise and thank the management team for the thought, care, and investment behind these changes. From the smallest touches to the bigger improvements, everything contributes to a workplace that feels supportive, uplifting, and aligned with our values.

Continuing the Momentum

As we move forward, nurturing these positive developments will keep strengthening our culture. It makes Lorimer a place where both staff and young people feel comfortable, valued, and proud to be part of.

Here’s to celebrating how far we’ve come – and to continuing to build a workplace that reflects the very best of who we are.
