Celebrating Pride Month at Lorimer!
JUNE IS LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH – LET’S SHOUT ABOUT IT!
The raised profile of the LGBTQ+ community makes this a great time to talk to your young people. Maybe you care for someone who is questioning their gender or identity? Maybe they are exploring their sexuality? Or perhaps they just have questions you want to help them answer.
Being a young person in care can be hard. Managing feelings and emotions is a trial of teenagers everywhere. Our Foster Carers are supported to be able to give the best advice and guidance they can. Resources such as this free booklet produced by Lorimer and aimed at young people, are available for them.

At Lorimer, we are actively seeking new Foster Carers to join our team. We welcome applications from the LGBTQ+ community. You don’t need to be in a relationship, and your gender or sexuality will not prevent you from fostering. As more young people become comfortable with expressing themselves, there is likely to be more demand for carers with an understanding of LGBTQ+ issues.
SUPPORT FOR LGBTQ+ FOSTERING HOUSEHOLDS
As well as support from the agency, other supporters of LGBTQ+ fostering include:
There’s also a really useful article about talking to young people here.

DID YOU KNOW…..
Each community who identifies as LGBTQ+ has a flag to represent them.
How many did you know?

Identity is important for all young people, and their gender and sexuality are only part of that. However, it’s a very important part. No matter how a young person identifies they have the right to:
- Be free from abuse, discrimination and harassment
- Live in a nurturing, accepting environment
- Access to health and welfare services
- Be addressed in their preferred Pronouns
- Be respected for exactly who they are
Sadly, many young people don’t have these basic rights. This is where YOU can help. A growing number of young people in care identify as LGBTQ+. Lorimer Fostering want to offer all young people a loving, accepting home.
