Lorimer - At the heart of fostering

June Roundup at Lorimer!

Posted on 1st July 2022 by

Wow, June has flown by at Lorimer!

We’ve celebrated Pride and LGBTQ+ carers.

We’ve celebrated male foster carers and dads everywhere.

And we’ve celebrated the work of our respite Foster Carers.

But there’s still so much more!!!

Our young people have done us proud:

  • One has completed a whole weekend of shows with her dance academy
  • Some have completed their GCSE’s
  • One young person is having their art exhibited next month
  • One has attended a football presentation, coming second
  • One is starting 6 weeks of Hooves Therapy training, to help others in the future
  • Three came together for a craft session, overcoming huge anxiety to do so

Well done ALL of our young people for continuing to make us proud of you each and every day!

Also in June….

The team here at Lorimer enjoyed a trip to Dunham Massey. It’s not often we all get together, and the sun was on our side 😊 It’s really good to be able to do things together again; working as a team is so important.

Our lovely Victoria celebrated a special birthday – we hope she was truly spoiled!

Bev and Ash also had their birthdays in June – Happy Birthday to all of you!!

If you’re in the Urmston area this weekend, come along to the NHS Birthday party in the Park where Lorimer will have a stall. We have loads of information about fostering and a VERY large bear who desperately needs a name, as well as special stones to take away and hide. Special thanks to Claire and the young people who helped to paint them all. Don’t forget to tag us on social media if you find one! All proceeds from the day go to Trafford Homestart. They do amazing work supporting families and children.

June Roundup - Lorimer Event

If you’re looking for things to do over the summer; check out this article from Porch.com. There are loads of ideas for STEM activities, for younger and older kids. Thanks to Adriana for linking in with us on this.

Coming Up…

Next week we are going to take a look at Foster Carer training. This is an important part of the role, and helps us to work better with our young people. Lorimer has an always developing programme of training for our carers. Ask your Supervising Social Worker what we have coming up in the coming months.

Speaking of training and learning, we also have an exciting opportunity to share with you…

There will be a screening of a short film – Be-Longing – about a young boy moving through the foster care system. This will be followed by a Q&A with the films director, and a chance to meet other people who work in the fostering sector too.

This will be an online event, and tickets are available for £5 from Be-Longing – a young boy in the foster care system Tickets, Wed 20 Jul 2022 at 19:00 | Eventbrite

Be-Longing is produced by DrumCamFilms, and directed by filmmaker Mike McKenzie. Mike and his wife Carol have been fostering children for over 15 years. Be-Longing has been nominated for and won several awards at a number of prestigious international and UK wide film festivals.

We hope to see you there!
