LGBT+ Adoption and Fostering Week

This week (06 – 12 March 2023) is LGBTQ+ Adoption & Fostering week. Are you part of the LGBTQ+ community and considering adopting or fostering? If so, LGBT+ Adoption & Fostering Week is a great time to start your process and find out more.

LGBT Adoption & Fostering Week is run by New Family Social, the UK support group for LGBTQ+ Adopters and Foster Carers. Throughout the week there are lots of different in-person and online events to attend; plus lots of information and more available on the New Family Social website. New Family Social allows you to hear the stories of hundreds of other LGBTQ+ families and families-to-be on their adoption and fostering journeys.

You can even sign up for a free bronze membership with New Family Social; which provides you with access to their online agency and information session finder tools. You will also receive invitations to a small number of their basic public events.

Fostering for Lorimer

As an inclusive agency, Lorimer welcome people from all walks of life to join us in making a difference to the lives of young people. If you have the ability to love and care for a child, we want to hear from you. You can Foster a child if you are:

Many people mistakenly think that there are aspects of their lifestyle that will prevent them from fostering. You can foster a child if you are:

  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or heterosexual
  • Single, in a civil partnership, married or unmarried
  • A homeowner or living in rented accommodation
  • A parent or parents already
  • From any ethnic or religious background
  • Working, unemployed or retired
  • Any age (over 21)

Having a disability or a medical condition doesn’t exclude you from adopting or fostering either, as long as you are able to cope with parenting, you can become a foster parent. You can find out more about who can become a Foster Carer by clicking here.
