Why We Care – Foster Care Fortnight

Posted on 7th May 2021 by

This year’s Foster Care Fortnight campaign, ‘Why We Care’ is fast approaching, and it is more important than ever that you to get involved. Taking place between the 10th and 23rd May, the overarching message for every campaign is that ‘foster care transforms lives’.

Why We Care: Foster Care Fortnight

More About Foster Care Fortnight

Foster Care Fortnight is The Fostering Network’s annual campaign to help raise the profile of fostering. Each year the fostering community comes together to put in a monumental effort in increasing the awareness of fostering and raising funds to help make foster care the very best it can be. If you would like to find out more, you can head over to the Fostering Network website here.

What to Expect from the Campaign

The Fostering Network wants the whole fostering community, from foster carers to fostering services and care experienced children and young people, from fundraisers to campaigners, and everyone in between to step up and tell the world #WhyWeCare.

If you are a carer and have pictures, videos, poems, blog posts or anything else – we want to hear from you! Tell us about the success stories you and your wider family have been a part of, or the wonderful achievements you have helped young people to accomplish. Every Foster Carer has their own story about why they care, and we want to hear yours.

You can email your submissions in to us, or send them to your Supervising Social Worker to pass on. We look forward to hearing all about your experiences!

More ways to get Involved

Whether you are a Foster Carer or not, there are many ways you can get involved and support the campaign. Take a look at some ideas below! You can also follow along with the ‘#WhyWeCare’ and ‘#FCF21’ hashtags on social media to see what other people are up to!

  1. Share a placard picture – print yourself a placard to write on. Then take a picture of yourself holding it (or just of the placard – your choice!). You can download a copy of it by clicking here. You could even get creative by writing the hashtag on your hand or making a collage of it! We love to see your pictures, so be inventive and think about how to make it relevant to the theme.
  2. Use a profile picture frame – you can use The Fostering Network Twitter Twibbon by clicking here. Add a profile picture frame to your Facebook page head to this link and search for ‘Lorimer Fostering’.
  3. Share a video – whether you’re a Foster Carer, a young person, staff member or simply a supporter of fostering; why not film a short clip of yourself talking about why you care about fostering. Remember to tag in The Fostering Network so they can see your messages and include the hashtags ‘#WhyWeCare’ and ‘#FCF21‘.
  4. Get the message out – At the heart of this campaign is the need to raise awareness of fostering. We would love you to engage your friends, relatives and others by sharing your fostering experiences. After all, who better to talk to than you, the experts, who live and work fostering every day!”
