Lorimer - At the heart of fostering

May Roundup at Lorimer!

Posted on 3rd June 2022 by

The end of May means the beginning of summer! Before we start the countdown to our holidays, let’s take a look at our May Roundup and what we’ve been up to here at Lorimer….

Welcomes and Farewells

We have recently welcomed Bev into the Lorimer Fostering team. Bev is the new Team Manager, and she has heaps of experience and ideas. Great to have you with us Bev!

Also joining the team is Louise; she has worked with us before as a Supervising Social Worker. Her new role will be assisting our “Responsible Individual”, Jonathan. Welcome back!

Sadly, we said goodbye to the marvelous Petia at the end of May 🙁 Petia has worked tirelessly behind the scenes at Lorimer and will be sorely missed. Good luck from all of us in your future ventures!

Foster Care Fortnight 2022

You may recall that Foster Care Fortnight ran from 9th – 20th May this year. This is a really important time for fostering as we are in the spotlight! We wanted to say a big thank you to those who got involved and shared their #FosteringCommunities. Every share, like or person you tell makes a huge difference, so keep doing this!

And in case you missed it, here is the link to our blog post all about Foster Care Fortnight.

Young People’s Achievements

  • Completing GCSE exams
  • Taking part in online courses in Cyber Bullying and First Aid
  • Making beautiful bracelets to sell on their own small business page
  • Meeting up with each other and our Resource Worker Claire to provide peer support and do some crafting

A big well done to each and every one of our wonderful young people!

Young People’s Events & Activities

We like to keep our young people busy doing lots of fun things!

Do you remember the painted rocks our young people were creating and leaving for people to find out in public places? Well this month our Resource Worker Claire has been helping our creative young people to make keyrings; look out for them in the Liverpool area! If you find one, let us know by sharing a picture with us on Facebook or Twitter.

Some of our young people also took part in a super fun art & crafting session that was recently held at the Lorimer office! Those who attended had the opportunity to use their creative skills to make wonderful items including jewellery, hanging decorations and painted artwork. This was a great opportunity for our young people to do some reflective work whilst learning some self-soothing techniques.

Oh no! Exam Season!

As many of you will know, May and June can be a difficult time. SATs, GCSE’s BTECs and A levels are tough to deal with. As parents and carers, it can be hard to know how to alleviate exam related stress. For some of our young people, the experience of being in care can add to this stress. Sadly, this is why National figures for educational attainment for Young People who are Looked After remain lower than their peers.

For help and support in this area, here are some useful links.

And, if you’re a young person taking your exams this month; don’t worry! Whatever your results, we know that you will have done your best. Be proud that you tried!

May roundup - Good luck with exams!
