April Roundup – on to May!
It’s time to roundup everything that happened throughout April for our Foster Carers, young people, and the staff here at Lorimer. First, we’re going to take a look at some of the wonderful things our young people have achieved over the last month!
Young Person’s Achievements
- Receiving certificates for completing online schoolwork
- Writing a song about Coronavirus (you can read it here!!)
- Being added to the top group for the hardest workers in math
- Creating a DIY garden table from recycled materials
- Learning how to bake tasty new recipes
- Receiving a certificate for making a tennis ball and being a good team player
- Working really hard and concentrating on doing homework packs
We also wanted to share with you some of these fab images we have received from Carers and young people this month! It looks like everyone has been having fun and keeping themselves busy as the lockdown continues. Our young people have been creating messages and posters for key workers and NHS staff, painting and crafting – even enjoying some sweet treats from a makeshift ‘Milkroom’ bar created by one of our Foster Carers!
The Always Heard Helpline
This month we want to tell you about Always Heard. They provide advice and advocacy for looked after children, care leavers and young people on the edge of care from 0-25 years old.
If you are working with or know a child that needs advocacy, please contact Always Heard using the details below. You can also click here to download and print these details out, so you can pass them on to anyone who might need them.

Preparing for Foster Care Fortnight
We’ve spent lots of time this month preparing for the upcoming Foster Care Fortnight campaign. This year, it is taking place between the 11th – 24th May, so make sure you pop those dates down in your diary to make sure you don’t miss it! The theme ‘This is Fostering’ aims to showcase the fantastic things that the fostering community achieve on a daily basis.

If you want to see how other people are getting involved with the campaign, search for the hashtags #FCF20 and #ThisIsFostering on Facebook or Twitter to find out!
